Bible Reading Coach, Week 17 (1 Kings 19 – 2 Kings 17) Elijah, Elisha, Jezebel and the Last King of Israel

When times are bad, God sends a prophet to his people. When they're really bad, he sends two in a row.

This is a week filled with stories you might have a vague recollection of, even if you’re not especially familiar with the Bible (“Chariots of Fire” anyone?). But few of us can put them in context.

These stories may also feel familiar in another way. Like the book of Judges, we’re in another time of darkness and uncertainty.

While Judges was a time of darkness and uncertainty before the high point of Saul, David and Solomon, this is a time of darkness and uncertainty after those great kings have left the world stage.

The Bible Reading Coach podcast is designed to help anyone read through the Bible in a year. In 10-15 minutes each Friday, I’ll introduce you to the passage for the following week, including:

  • What it’s about
  • How to deal with challenging passages
  • How the original readers saw it
  • How it applies today
  • And much more

After listening, take the next week to read the passage on your own. This time you’ll have a clearer understanding of it.
