Bible Reading Coach, Week 18 (2 Kings 18-25 & 1 Chronicles 1-12 ) Jerusalem Falls & The Story Is Retold

The Bible retells a lot of its stories. For good reason. In this episode, we walk through the end of one story, the start of its retelling, and what the differences are.

This week we’ll cross a barrier that you may not notice, so in this episode I’ll walk you through it.

After 2 Kings takes us through the fall of Jerusalem, we jump right to 1 Chronicles, and the clock restarts on the stories we’ve been reading so far. 1 Chronicles begins with a genealogy that goes all the way back to Adam (yes, Adam!) then the rest of 1 & 2 Chronicles retells the stories from 1 & 2 Samuel and 1 & 2 Kings, but with several notable exceptions. Why? Because now they’re told as an encouragement instead of a warning.

If you want further information about the differences between the books of Samuel/Kings and the Chronicles, check out this helpful article, What is the Difference Between Samuel/Kings and Chronicles? from Stephen J Bedard.

The Bible Reading Coach podcast is designed to help anyone read through the Bible in a year. In 10-15 minutes each Friday, I’ll introduce you to the passage for the following week, including:

  • What it’s about
  • How to deal with challenging passages
  • How the original readers saw it
  • How it applies today
  • And much more

After listening, take the next week to read the passage on your own. This time you’ll have a clearer understanding of it.
