This week we’ll be reading the first 19 chapters of 1 Samuel.
It’s the start of a new, exciting era in Israel’s history – the time of the kings. We’ll see why the people want a king and how quickly it turns bad for them.
We’ll also be introduced to a young shepherd boy named David. Eventually he will become their greatest king, but this week he faces a giant named Goliath in one of the Bible’s great cinematic scenes.
Since this is the first time we’ve seen a book of the Bible with “first” (1) in its title, we’ll talk about what that means, too.
The Bible Reading Coach podcast is designed to help anyone read through the Bible in a year. In 10-15 minutes each Friday, I’ll introduce you to the passage for the following week, including:
- What it’s about
- How to deal with challenging passages
- How the original readers saw it
- How it applies today
- And much more
After listening, take the next week to read the passage on your own. This time you’ll have a clearer understanding of it.
